The Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering Campaign
Benjamin C. Craft and Murray F. Hawkins (circa 1959) Campaign Scope and Purpose The Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering Campaign is focused on establishing endowed funds in the LSU Foundation for the benefit of the Universitys Department of Petroleum Engineering. The goal of the endowment is $5 million, and all private contributions during the five-year period, 1998-2002, count toward the goal. The campaign is conducted as part of the LSU Campaign, a major fund-raising drive now under way. The main objective of the establishment of this fund is for the department to be recognized as the Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering. Earnings from this fund will be used to support department scholarships, fellowships, and professorships. The fund will also provide support for instruction and research and for facility and equipment improvements and purchases. All categories of gifts count, including unrestricted contributions and those restricted to specific purposes, gifts of cash and securities, and gifts of property and tangible goods (gifts in kind). Planned gift commitments made in the estate plans of individuals are welcome and are counted toward the goal of the campaign. In this category are bequests made in wills and provisions for the LSU Department of Petroleum Engineering made in trusts, life insurance policies, and other vehicles of estate planning. Gifts from all non-government sources are counted, including individuals and families, businesses and corporations, foundations, and nonprofit clubs and organizations.
