LSU/UNO M.S. in Petroleum Engineering in New Orleans
This program was created in cooperation with SPE Delta Section in 1991. It offers geoscience and engineering professionals advanced petroleum engineering education through evening classes. Petroleum engineering classes are currently taught in Baton Rouge but can also be offered in New Orleans or Covington. Related classes are offered by UNO in New Orleans. Classes are taught by university faculty one or two nights per week. The program has resulted in more than a dozen graduates with M.S. degrees that were earned as part-time students and continuing education opportunities for many more professionals.
Night courses to be taught in Baton Rouge in the Fall 2008 Semester are PETE 4089 "Natural Gas Engineering” from 4:40 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday, PETE 7201 “Fluid Flow in Porous Media” from 6:10 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday nights, and PETE 7241 "Selected Topics – Advanced Phase Behavior of Petroleum Fluids” (emphasis on gas condensate reservoirs) will be offered 4:40 to 6:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday.
Enrollment in these courses requires admission to LSU. Students may enroll either for credit or non-credit. 7000 level courses require admission to the LSU Graduate School as either an M.S. or Ph. D. student or a non-degree/non-matriculating student (which is less involved). 4000 level courses can be entered with either admission to the Graduate School or through undergraduate admissions.
